The biggest seashell in the world
Marie Janssen, a German artist who lives in Vienna and who can boast works exhibited at the London Design Museum, the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna, the Design Museum in Gent and at the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation in Milan, has completed the feat to make the largest ceramic shell in the world.
It took almost two tons of clay and a few months of work to model it. The monumentality of the work, the largest single piece of ceramic existing in Europe, entailed considerable difficulties, starting with the high probability of explosion during firing and the need to build a kiln around the work before firing.
Unistara contributed by donating part of the materials used by Marie and her team for the construction of the oven in the Hollenegg castle park, in Schwanberg in Austria, where the shell will remain and will be transformed into a fountain synchronized with the tides.
Thanks Marie for allowing us to contribute to the creation of this unique work!
